Aishwarya Rai is an Indian film actress. She worked as a model before starting her acting career, and ultimately won the Miss World Pageant in 1994. Aishwarya has acted in over 40 films in Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu and Bengali. Often cited by the media as the “most beautiful woman in the world”, Aishwarya Rai made her acting debut in Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film Iruvar (1997), and had her first commercial success in the Tamil movie Jeans (1998). She gained the attention of Bollywood through the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Her performance won her the Filmfare Best Actress Award. Aishwarya Rai was born blue-eyed like her grandfather. But, over the years her eye colour had begun to change and became grey-green which she is famous for. Says Aishwarya Rai that when people expect too much from her something always ends up wrong up her and recalls an incident from childhood. Aishwarya further explains,” I was always a top scoring student in school and during my ICSE, I was expected to do brilliantly, but I wasn’t even amongst the top three. I stood eighth in class. That was one time I broke down and was shattered. But it taught me a lesson in life. In fact, just before the Miss India contest, the newspapers made me the hot favorite and intuitively I told my friends then, that I wasn’t going to win. Even at the Miss World contest in South Africa, though I was just one contestant among 87, just before the pageant, I was touted as the hot favorite and I thought to myself, “Jesus, this is all I need.”

Aishwarya Rai is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer apart from being a fabulous actress. She has been training ever since she was 4 years old in the dance form. Aishwarya Rai was accepted as an architecture student which she gave up before she entered the modelling industry.

- Aishwarya Rai secured 90% marks in HSC at Ruparel college in Mumbai.
- Her Pepsi ad with Aamir Khan was shot in one night during the infamous Bombay riots.
- Aishwarya has won the esteemed V. Shantaram Award twice: 2009 Best Actress for Jodhaa Akbar and 2003 Best Actress for Devdas. The V. Shantaram Award is voted on by members of the Directors Guild.
- Got her education at Arya Vidya Mandir and DG Ruparel College, both in Bombay, India. She was also accepted into Raheja College of Architecture in Bombay, but never went.
